A great early to mid 18th century lignum vitae salt. The colour and patina are very good,, one crack on the outside of the salt but due to its thickness doesn't go all the way through. Salts were placed on the table and people were able to take a pinch for flavouring. Master salts were the biggest placed near the master of the house and smaller vessels placed further down the table according to rank. C1750
