This is one of the first known calculators around. It was invented around 1835 by McFarlane of Glasgow, Scotland and would have been used primarily for banking applications, calculating interest on money. The cylinder is composed of three rotating sections with printed paper scales and a trade label McFarlane’s Calculating Cylinder, Glasgow. It has mahogany ends.
