A 19th century Man in the Moon Swiss nutcracker.  Very well carved features particularly the teeth, nose and eyes with intricate detail..  The nutcracker is hinged so that it opens at the mouth.
Note it has two different size indentations for two different nuts. A very nice example, featured in the  book The art and character of nutcrackers.
