An unusual piece of Tunbridge Ware, a  small Tunbridge Ware travelling chess set, with all the original chess pieces. The chess pieces can be removed and placed inside the box when not in use or whilst travelling. Inside the box it is stamped with the makers name Barton. Thomas Barton was employed in Tunbridge by Edmund Nye a maker of Tunbridge Ware. In the 1850's Barton was described as the foreman and actually took over the business after Edmund Nyes death in 1862.

The chess board measures 13.1cm x 13.1cm, 2.8cm height.
