This is a lovely early 1800s rosewood tabletop stationery/letter box. 
The sides are made in rosewood to look like a basket. The hinged lid has two slots in it probably for 'answered' and 'unanswered' mail, it has a divided interior. It comes with a working key. The box stands on compressed bun feet and measures approx  22cm w x 12cm d x 12.5cm h.
