This is a 19th century antique  child's knitting sheath made from yew wood. Very nicely turned this knitting sheath has a small hole in the top for fine knitting stitches.

It only measures 13cm long and may well have been a childs one. The smaller examples were made by grandfathers and fathers for their children, who would have been taught to knit at a young age.
