A very nice early 19th century boxwood  turned case with lid sundial and compass manufacture of the early XIX century, placed in its little The compass card with sixteen points, complete with daylight hours in Roman numerals printed on paper by engraving on copper plate and a brass gnomon at the centre, , is mounted inside the concave protective dome. Orienting the compass towards the north the gnomon casts a shadow on the hour scale.In good condition with just one small surface age related crack to base. Still retaining its instructions inside the lid. Diameter 5.4cm, height 4.5cm. C1830/40
