This is a lovely English 18th century lignum vitae coffee grinder.
The curved iron handle with turned wooden finial, slots onto the central shaft above a cup shaped hopper, in turn screwing onto a baluster container enriched with fine ring turning. This grinder works by placing beans in the top and turning the handle to grind the beans, the ground coffee will fall into the base which unscrews.
