A very good  small 19th century boxwood pill silverer, of a more unusual form, still retaining most of its silvered interior.

This spherical wooden box was used to finish the pills with a silver or gold coating. Gold or silver leaf was used to line the inside. Pills which had been moistened with liquid gum were placed inside. The lid was screwed on the base, and then rolled  or shaken around until the pill was coated with a thin layer of silver or gold.

It only measures 7.5cm h x 7cm w. This piece has a lovely colour and patina.
