A good 19th century boxwood pill silverer, still retaining remnants of its silvered interior and one silvered pill.
This spherical wooden box was used to finish the pills with a silver or gold coating. Gold or silver leaf was used to line the inside. Pills which had been moistened with liquid gum were placed inside. The lid was screwed on the base, and then rolled or shaken around until the pill was coated with a thin layer of silver or gold.
This measures approx 10cm h x 6cm w at the base.
