Where To Buy Antique Treen

The most common question I'm asked is where do you buy your antique treen from, and prior to be becoming a dealer myself I also wondered this? Well several sources is the answer, a lot of antique treen comes to me privately from people phoning or visiting my website and seeing the type of items I sell. Also from runners, occasionally auctions and very early mornings rummaging through fairs and house clearances and finally from other antique dealers, I come away thinking where do they buy their stock......? Wherever you go keep a look out, antique gems can turn up in the most unlightly places, once my friend was purchasing a modern kitchen and saw a gorgeous antique child's chair in the show room. You may get lucky at a car boot sale or jumble sale, I never have....but you just don't know what's going to turn up where.

ANTIQUE TREEN
​

​The word Treen is derived from the word tree and is a term used to describe wooden household objects, all turned from one piece of wood e.g. a bowl, plate, gingerbread mould, and spoons, always having a function.

​

Nowadays when we talk about Antique Treen it tends to cover all small wooden items including antique snuff boxes, candle stands, spice towers, etc. often made from several pieces of turned wood.

 

When a piece of wood has been painstakingly turned or carved, handled, polished and loved over a few hundred years old, it can develop a wonderful colour and patina and becomes an irresistible piece of Antique Treen.
